MRHS Events
This page is devoted to displaying pictures and records of some of the events that we have held in the
past and milestones we have crossed. Unfortunately, we didn't get pictures of all events so far.
                                           One of Our First Projects

This 12 x 24 building was one of our first tasks. Many animal control facilities have little or no space for cats and Marion Animal Control was no exception. Incoming cats were usually euthanized on the day of arrival. This building was installed at M.A.C. in October 2007 and outfitted with A/C, heat and running hot water. Cages were installed and it became a temporary shelter for our adoptable cats. It was quickly outgrown so when we moved into our current location it became a place for the city to hold cats and small dogs giving us time to seek rescue for them. It is still heavily used to date. Shown in the photo is MRHS President Bruce Carter.
                       Photo Shoot with Santa

This fundraiser was held just prior to Christmas 2007. Our Santa's little helper was volunteer Randall McFarland. There
was a very nice turnout for this event and we raised over $500 dollars. The photographer for the event was Stephanie Milligan who does a number of our dog and cat photos for us. Attendees ranged from small pets to the huge Wolf Hound shown on the right photo.
                      Easter Bunny Photo Shoot

Our Easter Bunny photo shoot was held on March 15th, 2008 at the shelter. There was a great turnout despite a rainy, grey day. Debbie Choate and Stephanie Milligan (photographer) help set up in the photo on top right. The event was attended by many pet lovers and their children and grand children.
Ideal Lawn and Tractor Open House

We were well represented on April 5th, 2008 at the Ideal event. Edna Fredman mans the booth in the photo top left. Susan Taylor walks a couple of our adoptable dogs in the photo top right. In the photo bottom right Lisa David (left) and Terry Thien (right) enjoy a moment soaking up the sun with Pierce, one of our rescued adoptable dogs.
Illinois Center Mall Home and Garden Show

Held on April 25 & 26th at the Illinois Center Mall in Marion, this event was a good way for us to get a lot of good exposure and announce our presence.  Shown manning the booth for us are Pat Treas and Carolyn Rauschert.
Volunteer Presented with Certificate of Appreciation
A certificate of appreciation was presented to Sara Kessel during the March 13th public board meeting. Sara volunteers on Saturdays at the shelter and also organized a "Pajama Day" fundraiser at her school, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Herrin.  Sara presented MRHS with a check in the amount of $670.  She was also given a certificate to take to the school administrators for allowing her to have this event. Shown from left to right are Sam Lattuca, Sara Kessel, Adeena Thornton and Bruce Carter.
Bucket Brigade Held on Marion Tower Square
A bucket brigade was held on the Marion Tower Square from 11:00 AM to 4 PM on Saturday May 17th, 2008.
                                        Herrin Elks Club Fundraiser

A fundraiser was held on May 17th at the Herrin Elks club. The benefit was planned and orchestrated by Sue Pullum. We owe many thanks to Sue and her family and helpers who pulled off this event. The fundraiser ran from 7 PM to about 10:30 PM. Many nice gifts were raffled off, numerous prizes and  packages were sold by silent auction and live auction. A 50/50 drawing was held and refreshments were available as well as two live bands who donated their time. Some of the items auctioned off included a 90 CC ATV and a 32" LCD flat panel television.
