MRHS First Annual Pet Fair
MRHS held its first annual Pet Fair on June 7th, 2008 at D&M Feeds in Herrin, Illinois. It was a hot and windy day but was still enjoyed by all attending. Music was provided by Sheila Simon's group "Loose Gravel". Entertainment was provided by Extreme K9 (dog training). Snacks were available as well as chances at drawing for prizes. Trophies were awarded for categories such as greenest pet eyes, fuzziest pet, shortest legs, etc. The event was chaired by MRHS Director Lisa David (top right photo). The event is planned to be held at a cooler time of the year next year.

Marion Rural King Dip-n-Dog Event
Saturday June 28, 2008 Rural King in Marion held their annual Dip-n-Dog event and invited MRHS to join them this year and all future years to come. The total funds raised have not yet been reported, but last year a check for over $800 was awarded to Jackson County's Shelter. Rural King was generous enough to donate a portion of their profits from all sales, inquire if customers would like to donate $1 (or more) from every sale, and welcome us to set up a booth for any additional fundraising that we wanted to run as well. The event will be held again in the fall of the year. Thanks to MRHS volunteers Linda Howard, Pat Treas, Marie Meacham, Donna Emmert, Bruce Carter and Sam Lattuca.
