Rhett's Page
This page is dedicated to the rescue of Rhett the Rottweiler. It contains pictures of Rhett which are graphic. Do not open the pictures if you have a weak stomach. This should serve as a
reminder of man's ability to be inhumane.
Meet Rhett!  The attached pictures are graphic proof of yet another
tragic case of abuse and neglect.  On April 1st, this boy was picked up
as a stray in Cutler, Illinois and brought to Perry County Animal
Control.  No one knows what happened to him or how long he had been
wandering the streets with this injury, but after we were told of his
sweet disposition, THORR made a commitment to help give him a second
chance.  Thanks to Michelle Shadowens, Rhett was pulled from animal
control so he could be seen by her vet and transported up north.
Michele's vet confirmed he will need special care and a lot of medical
treatment, which he will begin to receive on Monday, April 7th.  We
named him Rhett (after Rhett Butler) for his tenacity and determination
despite the pain and abuse he has suffered.

Rhett will be staying with me while he receives the medical treatment he
needs from Dr. Pat Hourigan and has a chance to make a full recovery
which could be 6 months or more.  I am asking you to help make a second
chance for Rhett possible.  If we all pitch in a little, it will amount
to a lot.  THORR needs your help to help Rhett.  I refer to THORR as a
small, but mighty rescue.  A small contribution from each of you will
create a mighty miracle for Rhett.

Don't let this stop with you.  Please pass this information along to
your dog friends who may be willing to help him too.  Please help us
help him!

                                                             Rhett Update 04/16/2008

Rhett is doing very well and adjusting faster than I thought he would.  Most importantly he has found his forever home!  He has a place with me now and doesn't have to worry about where he's going to be sent next.

We were able to track his microchip and he is now estimated to be between 10-1/2 and 11-1/2 years old!  We believe he has had multiple homes throughout his lifetime and we know that he is a true survivor.  His overall health is good, his spirit is high and he loves to play and cuddle.  He's quite well trained and will do just about anything for a good treat!

The mass in his eye is a tumor and he is currently being treated by the best vets and holistic people we have up here.  His disfiguration and the extent of his condition is nothing but medical neglect on the part of his owner.  I believe the precursor to this was an initial injury to the eye - could have been as simple as a scratched cornea that got infected.  But no one got him medical attention.  This cancer has metastized into his lungs, but his breathing is even and not labored.  I work with a lot of cancer in dogs and have a great network of folks up here who are all supporting him.  After just one week, there is improvement.  Our goal is provide him the best extended quality of life we can.  He is an awesome boy with enough love to fill the world and he is the most deserving of everything we can give him.

Thanks again for caring about Rhett and donating to help him get better.
